Intensivist-Led, Around the Clock

An ICU is only as good as who is physically present at 2 AM. Health1's units are led by critical care specialists with round-the-clock coverage — decisions about ventilation, medication, and escalation are made at the bedside by intensivists, not over the phone.

ECMO: When Ventilators Aren’t Enough

For the most severe heart or lung failure, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) takes over the work of the heart and lungs outside the body, buying time for the organs to recover or for definitive treatment. It's a capability few centres in the region offer — at Health1 it's part of the critical care program at Shilaj.

For Families: How Our ICU Works With You

Critical illness is hardest on families. Our teams run structured daily updates with a designated family member, clear escalation conversations, and counselling support for long ICU stays. Insurance and PMJAY coordination runs in parallel with treatment — a cashless emergency admission is never delayed for paperwork.

Common Questions

What is ECMO in simple terms?

ECMO is a machine that temporarily does the work of the heart and/or lungs outside the body when they are too sick to function even with a ventilator. Blood is oxygenated externally and returned to the patient, buying time for recovery or further treatment.

Can family members visit the ICU?

Yes, within structured visiting protocols designed to protect infection control. Each patient has a designated family contact who receives a daily update from the treating team.

Is ICU admission covered by insurance or PMJAY?

Health1 is empanelled with major insurers, TPAs, CGHS and PMJAY. In emergencies, admission and treatment begin immediately while our insurance desk processes approvals in parallel.

What is a transplant ICU?

A dedicated intensive care unit for patients immediately before and after organ transplantation, with stricter infection control and monitoring protocols. Health1 Shilaj runs one in support of its kidney and liver transplant program.
